Ikat Cashmere Pashmina Rainbow

Ultra-soft Ikat shawl woven in a rainbow colourway, featuring a wide blue border at each end and a playful zigzag pattern through the main body. This pashmina adds an elegant pop of colour to any outfit.

The warm, lightweight pashmina (cashmere) is made from the undercoat of the rare Changthangi goat, which lives on the high-altitude plateaus of Ladakh, Tibet and Kashmir. Each shawl is woven entirely by hand using a traditional Ikat pattern.

In this technique, the weft yarn is unwrapped and tie-dyed, then carefully rewound on a hand charka before being woven into the fabric. This merging of yarn and colour is known as Sangam, meaning ‘union’. Ikat’s distinctive resist-dyeing process — similar to tie-dye — requires tightly binding sections of yarn to preserve their natural tone. This may be repeated multiple times to achieve intricate, multicolour designs.

The final weaving is done entirely by hand on a traditional loom. Due to the complexity of the dyeing and alignment process, each shawl is completely unique. Slight irregularities, tonal variations and natural inconsistencies reflect the beauty of artisan production and slow fashion.
